Return to Our Diary

January 2021

New Year. New Start!

Our deadline, or rather the day of the house sale completion was looming. January 8th…

Our boat survey was booked for 6th so left us very little wriggle room, but we were determined to press ahead. Due to the vendors living in Wales and being in total lock down, we were unable to have a proper hand over of the boat and it’s systems, so we were pretty much in the dark and would be led by Michael our boat surveyor.

Thankfully, there were precious few things wrong that we weren’t already aware of and most had been factored into our offer.

In the meantime, we were still trying to get rid of our accumulated stuff. Because we weren’t able to have a second viewing, we were guessing as to exactly how much room we would have on board.

Only a fraction of our stuff going to storage…

Our eldest daughter kindly offered part of their bungalow loft to store much of our family archives and things we knew we wouldn’t have room for. We would discover that this wasn’t nearly enough and more would have to be thrown away sadly.

JANUARY 8TH

Completion day and also our youngest’s birthday! We had a “farewell meal” and cake and loaded up a hire van. Our first journey to our new home – North Kilworth Marina, was filled with excitement and trepedation…would we get all of this in the boat?

We had a lovely welcome from Gary and Mae at NKM (the shorthand version of North Kilworth Marina), signed the paperwork, paid for some electricity to get us started and were handed the keys.

Our first night aboard The Boat!

We would end up doing a further trip back to Norfolk to collect the remainder of our stuff and to help take some rubbish to the tip before returning to our boat and then the final trip to take the hire van back and collect Tony’s car (which we’re keeping until we depart the marina).

We were now ready to start Making New Memories…
